THE BLURB:
Have you ever dreamed of any of the following? 1. A book test that can fit in your pocket. 2. A book test which is fun to perform. 3. A book test that will allow you to describe so much more than a single word. 4. A book test that will enable you to describe an image in your spectators mind. Well dream no more! - The Fourth Key is the answer! Based around a new age book of love spells the Fourth Key allows your spectator to open the book at any page and memorise a very simple spell. With no fishing whatsoever you will be able to describe the spell in full glorious detail!! You can use the Fourth Key as a stand alone book test, as part of a one ahead routine or even to help you reveal the name of your spectator's first love. The Fourth Key is the ideal way to inject a solid piece of mind reading into your close up or stage act and by its very nature takes a light-hearted approach to the sometimes boring revelations of the standard think of a word Book test. The Fourth Key is the ideal book test to carry and perform at all times, and will be a dream to perform at your upcoming Valentine's Day gigs. Easy to perform, Learn in minutes, perform forever! MY COMMENTS: This is indeed a very strong, unique, portable booktest that does more than just reveal a word. And, in a technical sense, the four numbered statements in the blurb are mostly achieved. I say "mostly" because the claim that it is a "book test which is fun to perform" is quite subjective and I'm not so sure everyone will agree. Aside from that, and a few considerations mentioned below, this can be a very strong part of a performer's repertoire. I don't think I'm giving anything away if I say that the book is gimmicked. And there are some considerations about this that I'll point out. First, it's not repeatable for reasons I can't go into, but I think it should be obvious to working pros what I'm getting at. Second, this is supposed to be a book of love spells and that means that this book test is limited by those who can use this motif, which I'm not sure everyone can, nor will everyone agree is a "light-hearted approach." Third, the ten pages of instructions are included in the back of the book. Some may be bothered by that, but solid spectator management should alleviate that issue. Finally, though the book can be handled by a participant, it cannot be examined. To clarify, these are not drawbacks or criticisms, merely considerations to ponder in making your purchasing decision. The book itself is about 6"x4". The main interior pages have one spell per page and each is described on the top half of the page. Underneath is a worksheet that is supposed to chart the users progress of each spell. The progress chart is identical on each page. The spells are different and can be shown to be different. The spells that participants will be choosing involve burning something and love symbols. Nothing is burnt, mind you; it's all in the mind's eye. Due to its unrepeatability, this really is not that suitable for walkaround. It should work great for special close-up or parlour performances. It also appears to work ideally as part of a routine, such as a "Mental Epic" type of idea. These ideas are discussed in the instructions, actually. The bottom line is that this book is definitely not for everyone. It has a specific motif that you may find suitable to your style. If so, and the considerations don't make you hesitate, then this will deliver everything as promised in the blurb.
