MY COMMENTS:
I was all set to really blast this item for being totally
impractical to the working mentalist. I mean, how many
mentalists do performances wearing their sunglasses? And,
if one really did, wouldn't that be like an instant neon
sign to the audience that the glasses somehow do something
unusual? I totally disagree that is "great for stage."

As I said, though, I was ABOUT to give this a big
thumbs-down. You see, though mentalists may not wear
sunglasses during a show, they certainly wear them in
everyday life. And these sunglasses truly are stylish and
well-made. You most certainly could use them as everyday
sunglasses. I put them on and liked wearing them. And I
don't need to tell you how often one finds themselves in
situations where a utility device such as this would lend
itself beautifully to an impromptu miracle. It definitely
would play nicely at "fairs, amusement parks, . . . family
BBQ’s, and street work." I'm not so sure about walkaround,
though.

The skill, of course, is not to use it directly. For
instance, the performer turns his back and has someone walk
over to something, touch it, and then return. The performer
turns back around and names the item. If that's exactly how
it was presented, audiences may very well suspect the real
method. However, if the performer now grabs the
participant's hand and does a faux-contact mind reading
demonstration, the heat will definitely be off the glasses
and the actual method the performer used to identifyy the
location. (Okay, is that enough of a hint as to what these
sunglasses do?)

The instruction booklet (three pages, 8.5" x 11", stapled)
contains quite a few ideas for routines. None of them are
original in plot, but they illustrate how to use this
gimmick to accomplish them. The Mindshades is reasonably
priced, is described accurately in the blurb, can certainly
do what it says, can be used as (and looks like) everyday
sunglasses, and can certainly be a miracle utility item. I
wouldn't rate this as a must-have utility item because it's
not suitable for all venues and stage performances, but I
can certainly see some solid potential. If you wear
sunglasses, then this is a utility item I do recommend that
merits serious consideration in adding to your arsenal.
