THE BLURB:
Movie Time is a confabulation routine that creates a very
startling revelation! On stage sits a generic DVD rental
case, while you invite a spectator to come on stage to
assist you. As you flip through a book of movie titles you
blindly ask the spectator to pick one movie title. You then
ask them to give you a random date of when the movie is to
be returned and a random time. When you open the DVD case
there is the DVD title the spectator picked along with a
reminder card with the correct date and time the spectator
predicted.
'Movie Time' comes complete with the following:
* Gimmicked DVD case
* Specially constructed movie book
* CD complete with customizable artwork, routines, DIY
guide, etc.
* Reminder Cards
In-depth manuscript with scripts, jokes, routines and
performance ideas by Marc Spelmann, Floyd Collins and Robert
Haas.

MY COMMENTS:
If you're familiar with the classic Confabulation routine,
then you know what you're getting. Instead of using a
wallet or an envelope, it uses a DVD case which, natch, is
gimmicked. It can be handled briefly by the participant
without fear that they will discover how the DVD is cleverly
constructed.
Also included is a blank, Svengali-style flip book to
customize the movie choices. Personally, I'm not so sure
that this is best way to have a participant select a movie,
but it works and is a nice addition to the package. One can
always substitute the selection method and use the book for
something else. In fact, the accompanying DVD contains many
alternate ways to have the movie title selected, although
the ones that came to my mind were not found there. The
only real consideration that I've found to this is the
growing use of Blu-Ray. How soon this effect becomes dated
depends on when DVDs, like cassette tapes and typewriters,
become a thing of the past.
From the way it's packaged, I'm assuming that it was
originally a download, or at least it's also available as a
download. This package comes with the DVD case gimmicked
and ready to go, plus some rental reminder cards, and the
flip book. There's also a DVD with video instructions and
PDF/Word files which contain instructions plus the templates
you'll need to print or modify the rental cards, inserts,
DVD cover, and more. The only thing you must provide
(besides customizing the included book if you wish to use
it) is a DVD to stick in the case.
This is a wonderfully complete package that not only comes
with just about everything you need to perform it out of the
box, but with many ideas on how to use the gimmick and the
capability to create re-fills. If an effect involving DVD
predictions suits your style, this is certainly recommended.
