I just finished my week at the Magic Castle debuting my
all-new act and it was a lot of fun.  Quite a few folks
stopped me to tell me how much they liked it (and it was ALL
mentalism).  Quite a few subscribers dropped in to see the
act and say hello, too.  Thanks again to you!

Now I'm off to Mindvention.  I'll be hosting the first
lecture which spotlights Jack Kent Tillar.  I'll have sample
"preview" copies of the new Journal of the Mind, featuring
Mark Strivings, plus I'll be pre-selling the 2008
Marketplace Membership and my new DVD of the Mind, which
should be out in November.  I'll have a few other goodies as
well including Joshua Quinn's new Duplicity and Fred
Darevil's Gold Dragon Tattoo.  To those who are going, I
look forward to seeing you.

Okay, on to news of the new stuff.  Jack Kent Tillar's
Blister Book has just been released and I've included
comments in this issue.  His TRIO has also been released in
a brand new edition and is now cataloged on my site at the
usual discount (which is cheaper than before).  As mentioned
in the last newsletter, he also has great new items coming
out, which I'll tell you about after Mindvention.

There's been a lot of talk about Michael Murray's Between
the Lines.  I haven't seen it yet, but it does look like
it's very good.  If you want to order it now, before I
comment on it, it's up on my site.  From what I hear, I'm
confident I'll be cataloging this.

Okay, that's about it for the new stuff.  I'm making it
quick and short as I have to pack for Mindvention.  I'll
contact you when I get back.

**** ORDER DELAYS
This coming weekend, Danny Archer's wonderful and annual
Mindvention 2007 takes place (see below).  So I won't be
able to ship any orders until I return.

**** NON-U.S. ORDERS SHIPPING RATE GLITCH
Yep, for those non-U.S. customers who were wondering why
shipping prices were so high, it was a small error I
made in the shipping price options on my shopping cart.
Everything should be fine now.  For those that have
ordered, this is why you've been getting refunds.

**** MINDVENTION 2007
In just a few days, Robert Allen & Danny Archer's
Mindvention will be held at the Palace Station in Las Vegas,
Nevada.  The dates are October 7 - 9.  It's not too late to
hop in the car or make last minute plane reservations to go.
Featured guests include John Archer, Patrick Redford, Sean
Taylor, Jon Stetson, Joe Atmore, and Eugene Burger, plus
many, many more surprises.  And, yeah, I'll be there, too.

For more info, and the complete schedule, visit
www.Mindvention.com

**** THE MARKETPLACE OF THE MIND LECTURE
The cat's out of the bag, so let's make it official.  The
first lecture at Mindvention doesn't start until 4:00, but
I'm sneaking in a special "Marketplace of the Mind Presents"
lecture by Jack Kent Tillar.  Jack has a brand new book out
entitled The Blister Book.  He'll share of the work in that
as well as stuff from Trio, The Assumption Swindle, and
more.  Frankly, Jack will only be able to scratch the
surface of the volumes of creativity that he's created.  And
what he'll share with you is pure gold.  It'll begin on
Sunday, October 7, at 1:00 p.m.  You don't want to miss
this.  Really, you don't.

**** NEW JACK KENT TILLAR PRODUCTS
For those going to Mindvention, you'll get the first
opportunity to get some brand new stuff that Jack is
releasing.  He's got four effects/utility items -- Sports
Card Sting, The Virtual Gambler, The $2000 Card Challenge,
and Jack Kent Tillar's Secret Pockets.  Of course, the most
important new product is The Blister Book, which is a nearly
200 page volume filled with routines, ideas, and advice from
Jack and about three dozen top mentalists on Jack's most
famous routine.  Look for the book and the other products to
debut on the Marketplace after the first weekend in October.

**** PAST NEWSLETTERS NOW ON-LINE
Finally, I broke down and just decided to be plain lazy.
Instead of taking the time to re-format the newsletters and
make them all pretty looking for the blog, I decided I'd
rather spend the time on other more important things like,
oh, keeping the website up to date with the current
mentalism products and my comments.  Right now, I'm only
posting the 2007 newsletters.  Perhaps, in time, I'll put
more up.

So, there's a whole new section where you can see all the
past newsletters.  If you subscribed and aren't receiving
them, either check to make sure that the newsletters aren't
being considered spam by your Internet provider, or
re-subscribe (which is the easiest).

***** MARKETPLACE MEMBERSHIP CLUB
The new issue of Jheff's Journal of the Mind spotlights
Mark Strivings, one of mentalism's most prolific creators
and most famous as the creator of the SUC case, which
pros use.  To get this issue, you need to buy a membership
in the Marketplace of the Mind. For the $37 cost you get a
subscription to the 2007 issues of Jheff's Journal of the
Mind, an all-new e-zine for mentalists, and an additional
5% discount off merchandise from the Marketplace of the
Mind.  There will also be specials and other stuff
throughout the year.  Check out the preview edition
of the Bonus #0 issue featuring Jack Kent Tillar.  Go to
the website and click on the banner at the top.  Or use
the link below.

***** THE FRIENDS OF THE MARKETPLACE
Don't forget to check out the new Friends of the Marketplace
section. This is for those creators who are producing
wonderful products that I don't carry.  This is because, to
save overhead, I order as needed from my distributor, and
these creators aren't mass distributing it.  If you'd like
me to review your product and help you sell it, then you'll
find details about the Friends of the Marketplace program on
the website.  There's a button on the left hand side for you
to click on.

I've just added the third and the most important of Enrique
Enriquez' Invisible series, INVISIBLE READINGS.  This is
definitely an e-book that every mentalist should check out.
Also new to the section are Ron Martin's THE TAROT READER'S
NOTEBOOK, a must-have for Tarot readers; Craig Browning's
CRITTERS, an animal-themed collection of mentalism; Loren
Tindall's beautiful new THE DELPHI PORTAL, which is a
must-have prop for anyone who is a reader; and Gene
Nielsen's THE MAGICK YEARS, a jam-packed e-book filled with
over 70 professional and varied routines.

Remember, I don't make a dime on this stuff.  I do this
because I think the stuff is very good and worth it.

JACK KENT TILLAR
THE BLISTER BOOK
JMOM Price: $45
Suggested Retail Price: $49.95

THE BLURB:
Once or twice every century, a new principle is discovered
in our mystery field. In 1972, Jack Kent Tillar's Blister
Effect was first published in Tarbell Volume 7. Harry
Lorayne wrote, "As far as I know, this principle is new to
magic." The effect is that a performer mysteriously makes a
blister appear on the tip of his or her finger. Since its
publication, this unique effect has become well-known and
used by most mentalists and magicians.

However, most people don't know that Jack Kent Tillar, and
Academy Award-winning composer and highly respected
mentalist, had an extensive amount of work published in
Magick, Genii, Invocation, and other notable publications.
He has influenced many of the top professionals in mentalism
today.

Now, thirty-five years later, this book celebrates all the
individual ingenuity that performers have brought to this
classic. Included in this volume is Jack Kent Tillar's
original unpublished routine for the Blister Effect. It also
contains over fifty cherished routines, ideas, wisdom, and
secret devices for stage, close-up, and even radio, many of
them guarded secrets, from some of today's biggest mentalism
talents.

Contributors include:

Michael Weber, Banachek, Paul Harris, Marc Salem, Richard
Osterlind, Barrie Richardson, Alain Nu, Penn & Teller,
Richard Busch, Ted Karmilovich, Mark Edward, Larry Becker,
Gerard Senehi, Ray Grismer, Newell Unfried, E. Raymond
Carlyle, Joseph White, Tony Andruzzi, Richard Mark, Jheff,
Loren Tindall, Robin Dewitt, Gerald Blount, Leo Behnke,
Burton Sperber, Joe Zabel, Pasqual Perino, Odes Odhner,
James Gallivan, Leo Kostka, Michael Selwyn, Alberto, Peter
Marucci, Robert Fenton and Bill Herz.

MY COMMENTS:
Right up front, let me say that I'm a bit biased.  I worked
with Jack on putting this together and even contributed a
little something to this tome.  So for me to tell you that
there's some great stuff in here might seem a bit insincere,
but that's the way I feel.  I think the important thing to
note is that there is a lot more variety in this book than
you might think.  In other words, many may feel that the
blister effect is just one limited idea.  After reading
this, you'll see that there are a seemingly endless amount
of ideas to use this and, if you're not doing a blister
effect, you'll want to do it.  One of my contributions,
"Getting the Touch," I do frequently because I always carry
a washer (thanks to having Jay Sankey's Holey-Moley, one of
the few magic effects I carry around always) and that's all
you need.  It's a simple, but powerful effect.

In any case, by looking at the contributors' list, you'll
notice that quite a few top names have used the principle.
I will also mention that a few people have told Jack that
Banachek's contribution is "worth the price of the book" for
whatever that's worth to you.  It is really good.  I
honestly think you'll really enjoy reading this book and I'm
sure that if you don't have a blister effect in your regular
repertoire, you will after reading this.  Definitely
recommended.
