MY COMMENTS:
When Redford's original book was released a few years ago,
it was groundbreaking in its thinking. Its major flaw, if
one could consider it as such, is that to see it in action
was much more valuable and instructive. Now, this work has
a welcome video component and that makes learning this much
easier. In fact, there's even a section where you view the
performance and Redford explains what you're seeing.
What makes this an invaluable technique is that this
requires absolutely no gimmicks and no specific items. You
can have the participant hold a ring, a coin, a key, or
anything else that can fit in a closed hand, which makes
this a skill you can do anytime and anywhere, so long as you
have two people.
A few years ago, Jerome Finley released his Thought Channel.
This was very similar, but the big difference is that
Finley's version wasn't the liar/truthteller conceit. It
was the simpler "which-hand-is-it-in" plot. He also
provided quite a few more ingenious tells that are not
included in Redford's work. Most importantly, he charged
well over a hundred bucks for his work. Now I truly feel
that such a strong technique is worth it, but the point is
at the price Redford is charging for his version, it's a
decidedly undervalued steal. And that is especially true
considering the original book was priced the same as the
DVD, which contains even more material at the subject.
Many mentalists are arming themselves with material that
they can do anywhere, anytime, and without any props. In
other words, making mentalism look as real as possible. For
a very small cost, Redford gives you an incredible course in
an invaluable skill and definitely a must-have for any
mentalist to study.
