MY COMMENTS:
To borrow from a popular classic commercial, when Richard
Webster talks, mentalists listen. He's written numerous
books, has unquestionable experience, and is one of the
formost authors on the subject. Thus, there's no question
that if you're a beginning reader, this is an excellent
place to start as it provides a fairly thorough overview of
doing professional readings. To be specific though, this is
a book about doing readings for entertainment, meaning short
readings that are three to five minutes, as opposed to
full-length sessions for the more in-depth personal
explorations. These short readings are designed for
corporate functions or casual meetings.
This 6x9", 116 page, softbound book contains twelve
chapters, which include overviews of palmistry, numerology,
magic squares, tarot, gemstones, and graphology. None of
these chapters are long enough to actually give you a
detailed knowledge of these topics, but there's enough to
get your interest. There are suggested references given at
the end of each chapter for convenience and further reading.
Most importantly, there are three chapters entitled, "How to
Gain Experience," "Professionalism," and "A Typical
Evening." The contents should be self-explanatory, but it
is this advice which is really the most invaluable to the
working reader. Also, the first chapter of the book,
"Readings Versus Magic," nicely defines the difference
between doing magic and readings as well as the difference
between full-length readings and quick readings for
entertainment.
Finally, I do want to say that though this is a must-have
for those entering the field of doing readings as
entertainment, it is a quite enjoyable read for experienced
readers, too.
