Reflections

With permission from Mr. Larry Becker, Outlaw Effects has
produced an homage to one of his great stage effects. Say
hello to Reflections

After finishing the Homicide Trilogy I was ready for
something a little more mainstream. I still wanted to do
another "entry" style test, but change the genre to
parapsychology itself. I was inspired by Mr. Beckers
original method used in Reflecta-Thot. (Available through
Ken Driscoll).

The original (brilliant) effect involved five 8 x10 inch
laminated cards. Each card has 100 different words printed
on it, for a total of 500 words in the "test".

Under seemingly impossible circumstances you are able to
devine the one word out of 500 truly different words, the
spectator is merely thinking of.

It kills.

I had designed something based on emotions and behavior with
three different tests that utilize three sets of entries on
each page. Using a method similar to Mr. Beckers, you gain
the information to do all three revelations from a single
piece of information before you even start the presentation!

The bonus effect is Kioku! In the book! No cards!

Reflections is a very small 4 x 5.25 inchs. The pocket
version is 3 x 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches.
There are 110 pages.
On the right side each page has 10 different statements that
reflect what we say to each other everyday. There are
hundreds of different statements in the book.

Each right hand page also has 10 symbols on it, and 18
individual words at the bottom of the page.
You also have the option of duplicating the symbol they are
thinging of, rather than just revealing it.

As I stated above, you will know the context of the
statement, the exact symbol and the exact word they are
thinking of, before you even begin the actual presentation.

This allows you to do one revelation each to three different
spectators or, all three revelations with a single
spectator!

On the left side of the page is the Kioku memory transfer
test.

With Reflections you are able to reveal the context of the
statement they are thinking of, a keyword they are looking
at, the emotion tied to the statement, the exact E.S.P.
symbol they are thinking of and...a memory they never
reveal, until you tell them the exact memory it is they are
thinking of.

Reflections is 100% examinable. There are no "banks", no
sevengali principle or short pages are used. You do not need
to know a page number, and you do not peek the book.

If you have the Pocket Version you'll never leave home
without it!

The method is so simple it will blow your mind.

The book has also been designed to be U.K. friendly!

The book is printed on heavy card stock with a velo binding.
It is very "official" looking. It is dated 1984.

The "Pocket size" is printed on ivory colored 20lb. paper
stock and has a vinyl composite cover. Both books are
identical in content.

MY COMMENTS:
I've always admired Larry Becker's Reflecta-Thot, however I
thought having five large cards with a hundred words on each
of them was a bit gimmicky or, if you will, "mental magic".
Outlaw Effects has taken Larry's effect and adapted it to a
book which is allegedly an "Emotional and Semantic Memory
Test." The modus operandi is exactly the same, except that
instead of words its events that evokes emotional memories.
In addition, each memory is assigned a different ESP symbol
which can be divined. And, as a bonus, a version of Kioku
has been incorporated to make a very strong third phase of
this routine, if the performer wishes to carry the routine
that far. Finally, for those who care about having this
feature, the book can be completely examined.

I've always been tickled by the illogicalness of the
Reflecta-Thot selection and how the audience somehow finds
it very logical and very fair. ("We have 500 memories, so
pick three numbers from 1 to 5.") By no means is this a
drawback, just something that always amuses me and one of
those examples in a mental routine where illogic seems to
work very nicely. I should also point out there is a small
amount of memory work involved, but it shouldn't take too
long to do that and, if you already have Kioku, it will be
easier. The book comes in two styles. The pocket style can
fit in your shirt pocket and the other can fit into a coat
pocket. It comes with 9 pages of instructions. Because
we're dealing with personal memories, this is truly a very
powerful prop/routine and something worth always carrying
with you. Definitely recommended.
