Larry Becker and Lee Earle's
STAR TRICK
$63.00
Suggested Retail Price $69.95
THE BLURB:
You start with a 4-times-folded 24x36 inch (61cm x 91.5cm)
poster that has 576 unique photographs of public celebrities
- all printed in gorgeous color on a brilliant paper that is
incredibly tear-resistant. You slowly and deliberately
unfold and show every square inch of the printed surface to
an audience participant, who verifies that all 576 shots are
different.
Next, he randomly selects one of those icons as his 'secret
star'. Only now do you unfold the full poster so the entire
audience can see that the hundreds of photos are really
tiles in a mosaic - becoming a work of art that depicts the
participant's 'secret star'!
You can play it straight - as 'subconscious influence' - or
as a gag, "Who wants to read his mind?"
* No stooges.
* No pre-show work.
* No sleights.
* No electronics.
* No counting.
* No adding.
* No writing.
* No plastic baggies.
* Nothing to get between you and your audience.
The selection (a force - how else?) is clean, clever, and
diabolic - as well as easy, direct, and logical.
Lee Earle spent hundreds of hours creating this digital
masterpiece; both to honor an instantly recognizable star
who transcends generations, and to design a visually
intriguing prop to support an engaging routine.
Comes complete with full-color poster, instruction sheet and
initial materials needed to start right out of the tube.
MY COMMENTS:
Greg Arce published a wonderful method for having a
participant randomly put a small round sticker on a map
that's held behind his back, which the performer correctly
predicted. This takes that effect in a different direction
and uses a page printed with hundreds of celebrities. Also,
with Greg's method, the dirty work was done before the
effect began. With this version, the dirty work is done
during the effect and unbeknownst to the audience.
Obviously, it also has an intriguing and unique reveal.
This is a stage or parlour effect and it is obviously not
suitable for close-up. It's also not an effect that can be
repeated. And, though the poster is made to last, the
poster will have to be cleaned after each use (i.e.,
removing stickers). The package contains a double-sided
sheet of instructions (which I found a little confusing and
had to read it over a few times to understand it), the
poster, some labels to get you started, and an extra
consumable item which is needed to do the dirty work and
which can be replaced easily from any office supply store.
All of this comes inside a tube for shipping.
