SUBLIMINAL SQUARES
$50
THE BLURB:
This isn’t your grandpa’s magic square!
I originally released Subliminal Square as an alternative to
the traditional instant magic square plot. Instead of the
mentalist rapidly completing the square with a number
provided by an audience member, using a Subliminal Square he
rapidly implants a number into the subconscious mind of an
audience member!
This innovation in mentalism was first seen in Banachek’s
“Psychological Subtleties 2” and received wide critical
acclaim and near instant classic status. It quickly became a
staple in the repertoires of many working pros.
Subliminal Square took a new turn in Sublime Subliminal
Square, one of the most popular effects in my ebook, “The
Fource.” Not requiring “The Fource” force, SSS can be
performed on the entire audience at once!
Now imagine Subliminal Square and Sublime Subliminal Square
having a love child! That should give you an inkling of my
latest subliminal tour de force. No longer requiring any
special props, sleight of hand or math under pressure, you
are freed up to concentrate on the devastating presentation.
You will want to carry this with you in your wallet at all
times, preparing yourself to wow one person or 1000.
All three versions are included in “Subliminal Squares” as
is the alternative “Savant Square” presentation, turning
audience members into instantaneous math savants. And as if
that weren’t enough, get ready for world-class contributions
from the acts of some of the best minds in mentalism.
Dr. Todd Landman, Steve Pellegrino, Rich Hennessey, Greg
Arce and Joshua Quinn all give up the goods. They share
everything from their own refinements to complete routines
they are performing on a regular basis.
A folder of templates covering everything from business
cards to auditorium size projections is also included. The
templates are set up to personalize with your own
advertising material or to make the squares specific to that
corporate gig you have coming up. A generic scientific “test
kit” version is also included.
MY COMMENTS:
This is not technically an improvement over classic magic
square methods or presentations, but an entirely new and
ingenious direction for the presentation and handling of
magic squares. That, of course, is its strength and its
caveat. If this direction suits you, then you'll love this.
But this isn't everyone's cup of tea, as the saying goes.
Usually, and the way most perform magic squares, the
presentation is a demonstration of a lightning quick math
ability, sometimes with a little bit of mindreading thrown
in. This take on magic squares turns into one of mental
influence. Instead of having a number freely chosen and
then the magic square work is done, the magic square is
shown to the participant and they are influenced to name a
number, which is then shown to be the key number of the
magic square.
This concept, which first appeared in Banachek's
Psychological Subtleties 2, is explored in this 63 page
e-book with several contributors providing a variety of uses
for this principle. Also, included are some Word and Power
Point files which contains magic square templates and more
for your convenience.
My only criticism is that, despite the contributions, it
just didn't feel that this presentational direction is as
fully explored as it could have been. Among those included,
some are quite obvious, one is clever (Greg Arce's Square
Peg), and one is just a joke (Rick Roth's Rick Tac Toe).
But this is a minor point as this may not have been the
intention of including the additional routines and the
ideas are different enough that they will get your
creativity stirred on how to use this in your
performances.
If this direction of the magic square intrigues you, then I
absolutely recommend this.
