MY COMMENTS:
The above blurb goes with a demo video, which isn't a live
performance video but rather Jay describing and walking
through a demo of the effect. The routine involves throwing
a stack of business cards into the audience and one
participant catches it. The performer takes the cards and
draws a clock on it. The participant is then instructed to
think of a time, any time (and it is a completely free
choice). When the performer shows the drawing, the hour
hand is in the exact position of the time that the
participant names aloud.
All of the points in the blurb are correct. What's not
mentioned is that there is a bit of one-time
"do-it-yourself" preparation. This work is not difficult
and the package contains everything you need to make the
gimmick.
At the time of this writing, I have not made the gimmick,
nor tried it out. I don't think there's any question that
it works though, as Ray Piatt used a very similar idea for
one of his leather notepads that I have used. Which means,
of course, that one big consideration is that you need to
have the gimmicked stack of business cards with you to
perform this. This is no big deal in a formal show, but if
you were looking for a more impromptu or pocket routine,
this may not suit your needs.
The package includes three folded sheets (two double-sided
pages for the instructions and one for the cover), plus the
materials needed to make the gimmick. You must supply your
own business cards. For the price, which is quite
reasonable, this is certainly worth checking out and a
nicely produced idea from Jay.
