THE BLURB:
Magi-Fest: SOLD OUT
Blackpool Convention: SOLD OUT
World Magic Seminar: SOLD OUT

When Alan sent JB Magic a video clip of him performing this
routine, they knew they had a sure fire winner.

A small spiral bound book is handed to a spectator. Each
page has a picture of 4 different symbols on it. Each page
also has a bold, black printed number.

A small envelope is placed onto the table. The spectator is
asked to thumb through the book and stop on ANY PAGE. Note
this is any page. No forcing of any kind. For the first
time, the magician shows the back of the envelope. It reads
"Everyone says stop on an odd number." Amazingly they have
selected an odd number. The envelope is opened and tipped
out is a prediction. It MATCHES EXACTLY the page they
stopped on.

MY COMMENTS:
Though I do like this, and the routine plays exactly as
described, the blurb is somewhat misleading. And, as usual,
I have to tread carefully without giving away the method.

First, let me just say that the effect is indeed very simple
to do. It plays exactly as the blurb describes it. The
effect is essentially self-working. There are no sleights.
And the handsomely produced spiral pad certainly looks like
it could be some sort of an ESP testing tool. Some may feel
that because it's so slick looking, it's more mental
magicky. Of course, this is a matter of preference and one
can modify the cover, if one wishes.

There is one claim from the blurb that I feel is a bit
misleading. It claims a "DIFFERENT OUTCOME EVERY TIME."
Well, no, not exactly, although it does depend on what one
defines as a "different outcome." A different page can be
chosen each time - that's true, but if one considers the
outcome to be the prediction, then it's inaccurate. I can't
be more specific, but this information is important for
those who may want to use this for walkaround or who
consider repeatability a crucial factor in performing
effects.

I will also note that the principles involved are not new.
You're basically paying for the props. I've seen
discussions on this that discuss making this using your own
spiral pad, etc. That certainly and easily can be done.

Mark Mason always produces effects which are first rate in
craftsmanship and professionalism. The instructional DVD,
the ESP book, and the prediction are all well-made. This
effect is easy to do and can be performed minutes after
watching the instructional DVD.
