Concept by Richard Paddon, ideas and routines by Sean Taylor, Richard Paddon, Dave Everett and Edward De'Ath MY COMMENTS: After talking with several mentalists, this is certainly one of those love-it-or-hate-it products. And I'll explain why in a bit. Despite my saying this, there's no question that the four effects included are very different effects and, though solidly thought out, each can serve as a starting part for the "principle" contained within should you choose to think of uses for this beyond the included routines. This principle, which involves a particular gimmick, is certainly not new. Richard Paddon published a version of one of these effects more than a decade ago. And Larry Becker used this "principle" when he released Marker Mentalism some years ago. (The effects Larry Becker used are different from the ones presented here, of course.) Now, let me get back to that "love-it-or-hate-it" declaration. The main consideration here is the use of these markers. Paddon does a little adjusting on them so the markers look like ordinary markers, which is a necessary and great idea. It's not their look that is an issue, but their use, which is anything but ordinary. And that's not done secretly. When the pen is used on a card, words and/or symbols appear (as mentioned in the blurb). And that may be considered too "magic-y" for some working mentalists. It depends completely on your style and preferences. There are four effects that are demonstrated and explained in this package. The title effect, Colaura, is described above and it plays pretty much as described. The other three are vaguely described, so let me provide a few more details. PsyCol - An envelope is on the table and the participant selects a card which is their subconsciously favorite color. The marker is then used on a card and the name of that color appears. The participant then names their favorite color, the performer turns over the card, and then he uses the marker to make the name of that color appear on the card, too. PsyTuition - A business card is shown with four ESP symbols. The participant chooses one and the performer writes with the pen on the card. A message appears which proves the performer knew which symbol would be chosen. I'll comment here that it seems odd to have four ESP symbols, and not five. With some thought, five can be done, and I wish Richard would have been able to come up with that, but one can design their own card to do that. PsyShape - The participant names two shapes. The performer wipes the marker on a card and causes two shapes to appear. They are, of course, the named shapes. The package contains four markers, three stacks of business cards (30 aura reading cards, 20 cards for PsyTuition, and 30 color reading cards), a DVD that contains the performances and explanations of the aforementioned effects (with Richard Paddon and Sean Taylor), and a CD that contains a 56-page e-book and bonus files. The e-book contains not only the basics of three of the effects (PsyShape is not included), but additional tips and handling techniques. The bonus files include PDF and Word files of the cards so that you can print them out yourself. I will note that the files are in A4 format and those who use the "Letter" format will have to make adjustments. As I said above, whether you'll like this or not depends on how you view the use of the marker pens in your performances. That aside, this package does contain everything you need and is beautifully produced. If you decide to purchase this, you certainly will not be disappointed and the included routines should also spark your creativity to conceive of other routines.
