Richard Bellars
THE BLURB
This is the effect that fooled the pants off Penn & Teller!!! Richard has taken the confabulation plot to new heights of impossibility with their shoe reveal! Richard has been performing Confab-Shoe-Lation in his stand-up act for well over a year and then decided it would be the ideal effect to fool Penn & Teller on national TV. Richard is a real creative thinker and a full time worker so you know his stuff is going to be practical to use in the real world! Effect Imagine your spectators can name any 3 items and you have predicted them correctly in a note that you have kept safe in your shoe from the beginning of the show. On this DVD Richard Bellars and Tom Swift (who is the co-creator of the effect) take you step by step through every aspect of the effect, including how to create the gimmick with your own shoe. Vegas Vacation This is the routine Richard Bellars and Peter Nardi devised for Richard's corporate shows. It's a great 3 phase routine using an imaginary trip to Vegas as the premise. After your spectators have played 3 popular casino games you reveal your prediction from your shoe. The prediction takes the form of a $1 bill with all the scores written on the back. Please note construction is required and you will need to gimmick your shoe to perform Confab-Shoe-Lation. MY COMMENTS: If you haven't seen Richard Bellars fool Penn & Teller on the Penn & Teller Fool Us UK show, then go to YouTube, do a search, and watch it. Do it now. It's also on Richard Bellars' website. It is one impressive routine. Watch it and then come back here. I'll wait. Ok, now that you've watched the performance, you know that this is a very strong routine. Due to copyright, the Penn & Teller video is not on the instructional DVD, which runs just a tad more than an hour, but you do need to see it before you decide on purchasing this. There are a few considerations. First, as mentioned above in the blurb, you must alter a shoe. One could do it themself, but it is suggested one takes it to a shoe repairer. Also, the optimal shoe is a hard-soled, formal type shoe. This shoe would be worn during performance only (or just prior) and not recommended to use as a regular shoe throughout the day, though you could, I suppose. Second, powerful magnets are involved in the construction of the shoe. I can't go into details, of course, but let's just say one will have to be very careful with the stages one walks on. This is another reason why the shoe should be worn just prior to the performance. Third, the most pressing consideration is the very concept of having a prediction in a shoe. Taking off one's shoe might be a little off-putting to some, a little too magic-y for others, and a perfectly powerful effect to those this interests. I don't think there's inherently anything wrong this concept, but it does depend on one's individual style. As with other similar effects, one might wonder whether this is a one-man effect or not. The answer is yes and no. On the DVD, Bellars explains different versions of doing it, including solo and non-solo versions. After learning how the prediction ends up in the shoe, you'll realize there are many ways to do this. All that taken into account, this is a very strong and highly recommended effect for anyone that this interests. The package comes with the DVD and the magnets necessary to make the gimmick.
