Patrick Redford
THE BLURB:
Double feature is the new DVD from the mind of Patrick Redford that combines 2 very strong effects performed with any cell phone. Cellular Oracle- Divine the Past Divine the name of a thought of person recently spoke with by phone and exactly what that person looks like. Then that thought of person is called and a person from your personal phone book is called. Both are asked to name any single digit on a telephone's dial pad. Mysteriously, they both name the exact same digits proving a mysterious connection between strangers. AND Prophesy Voice - Predict the Future Play an audio prediction recorded days ahead of time on your cell phone that details events that came to be moments before it's heard. With the Prophesy Voice technique you can predict virtually anything on your cell phone's recorder. Best of all it's Impromptu. Nothing written down. No dual reality. Perform anywhere anytime. May be performed impromptu. My be performed Close up. May be performed on stage. No extra props needed, just you and a cell phone. No apps to buy or nothing to download. Running Time: Approximately 3hr 13mins MY COMMENTS: After watching this DVD, my first reaction is this: "Is Redford out of his mind?!?" At $25, that makes this $12.50 per effect. After seeing this done on video, I think most would agree that these effects are worth far more than that. In fact, I think any one of them could sell for the $25 price or more. Both effects use cellphones, and for the most part, most of the routines are impromptu and can be done one on one. The first routine, CELLULAR ORACLE, has been sold before as an e-book (which was also underpriced), so some may recognize it. It's a three phase routine in which the performer reveals the description of a favorite person the participant is thinking of, then the name of that person. Finally, that thought-of person is called and names a number. The performer calls a person on his or her cellphone and has that person name a number. The numbers match. The first two phases of the routine are impromptu. The only requirements are that you have to know your way around cellphones and know the various different types of cellphones, but that isn't really too hard to do, as you'll be shown on the DVD. The method is rather bold, but I'm not referring to any controversial techniques, such as in**** st*****g or pre-***w work. In this case, I mean doing the "dirty work" right in front of the participant who will not have a clue as to what's going on. The final phase of CELLULAR ORACLE is very similar to the classic "Mr. Wizard" phone effect and the requirements are essentially the same. As Redford suggests, Hilford's CELLULAR MITOSIS is an excellent substitute for this phase. PROPHESY VOICE (which is from Patrick's e-book VOICES) is an effect that can be done anytime and anywere, so long as you have a voice recorder. Cellphones that have voice recorders on them can work, too. Phones that have a touch screen though are tricky to use. I still am having trouble doing this with mine as you have to know where to press to pause the recording while not looking at it. Also, with phones, you will need a Bluetooth device, but most people have one anyway and so this should not be a difficult requirement. As to the routine itself, the only requirement is that you learn a very specific script and rehearse it so that it sounds natural. Redford provides you with the script he uses, but also explains how to craft your own script. Whether you use his or your own, you must stick to a script for this particular effect. That means that there will be a certain amount of practice needed before you can effectively perform this. Now, I will note that I have not tried this yet. However, I was experimenting with this very idea and, failing to be successful at it, went back to the drawing board and eventually created my Ultimental. My problem was that I had no logical disconnect and those I showed it to guessed what was going on. Redford has debatably overcome this problem due to some very clever routining and nuances (such as his "thank you" bit). Like CELLULAR ORACLE, this is also bold in its method as the dirty work is being done during performance. And some performers may feel that the boldness is something they are uncomfortable doing. For those who aren't afraid to use these techniques, though, both of these routines are real miracles and an absolute steal at the price Redford is charging. Unquestionably, I recommend this.
