Luke Jermay
THE BLURB:
Phase 1: Your spectator shuffles the deck. You identify the cards as "red" or "black" simply by running your fingers along the face of the cards... Phase 2: Your spectator shuffles the deck once more. You identify the cards as "red" or "black" simply by waving your fingers underneath the cards... Phase 3: You determine the color and identity of a card that is sealed inside the card box... No mirrors! No wax! No chemicals! No magnets! No wires! No strings! No counting! Not a stacked deck! Not a marked deck! Not a peek! Not a pull! Not a new gimmick, but YES a surprising new way of using a gimmick you probably already have! You Get: Luke Jermay's surprising new method for this classic effect, the most effective and free we've ever seen. Several classic ways to accomplish this effect. Luke Jermay's handling of Out of This World, the perfect effect to follow this demonstration. A copy of the original manuscript Luke Jermay shared with a small group of friends while he was developing the routine. Running Time: Approximately 2 hrs 52 mins MY COMMENTS: I remember Jermay doing a piece of this at a lecture at the Magic Castle, if I recall correctly. He did say it was a work in progress and didn't tip the method, but did explain what the method wasn't. I knew that were he ever to release this as a product, I'd be very interested in this. And now he has and I'm very excited. This is a well-thought out, three-phase routine. The first phase is merely using one's fingertips and touching the face-down deck to determine the color. In the second phase, the fingertips are held a few inches beneath the deck. This phase, indeed, contains the cleverest application of the principle. Finally, the performer reveals the identity of a card that's been in a closed box since the beginning of the routine. The ad blurb says "sealed inside the card box." Well, not really. It's not sealed as in hermetically sealed or "wrapped in plastic" sealed. It's sealed as in being simply in a closed box. The ad also proclaims that this is not "a new gimmick, but YES a surprising new way of using a gimmick you probably already have!" The gimmick is a special deck of cards, but it is a deck that you should be familiar with and probably already have, as the blurb proclaims. And, what's even better, is that you can use this deck before and/or after you do this routine. In fact, Luke teaches his handling of the classic Out of This World when married with this principle and it is a good follow-up to AEEOSWTF. Another element I like in this routine is that you don't go through the entire deck reading with the fingertips. The participant shuffles the cards (and can do so at just about any point in the routine) and hands the performer about a third of the cards. This makes the routine flow quickly and concisely. It doesn't drag because the performer has to deal all the cards. And, yes, the cards can be handled freely by a participant. The technique itself is not difficult. It didn't take me long to get the basics down. It involves the grip of the cards (similar to an overhand grip) and the "move," which simply involves drawing out the bottom card. Sure, there's more to it, but not as far as the difficulty is concerned. As for the re-set, it can be done in seconds and it can be done in front of participants, though I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you're a decent card handler (when you get this, you'll understand what I mean). The package includes the deck of cards and a DVD, which is far longer than most DVDs. Jermay goes into extensive details about the routine and its workings, plus extra bonus handlings and tips. Highly recommended. Please note that the included cards come in red or blue. You may specify in the order comments which color is your preference. Doing so may delay your order if I'm out of that color. If you don't specify the color, I'll send out whichever color I have.
