THE BLURB:
A Macabre Mentalism/Bizarre Masterpiece

On June 18, 1969 in Hampton Falls, Massachusetts, eight high
school students spent one terrifying night in an abandoned
and purportedly haunted insane asylum. Not all of them
survived...

Tony Chris tells their story through his captivating,
macabre mental masterpiece, as eight photos of the students
are displayed. A spectator is asked to separate the photos
into two groups. This is done in the fairest possible
manner. The spectator has a 100% FREE CHOICE of each photo
and to which group to place it in. Each choice is absolutely
made by the spectator without any conditions whatsoever! It
is that clean. Once this has been done, the photos are
turned over to reveal that the spectator has successfully
separated the students who died that night from those who
lived through the nightmare of the Hampton Falls haunting.

INCLUDES the custom printed cards for Hampton Falls, a

MY COMMENTS:
This is a great "packet" trick that'll certainly appeal to
even those who dislike card work. The bizarre patter and
theme of this particular effect is presentational only. And
though "Dead" and "Alive" are printed on the back of the
cards, one can certainly customize this so the presentation
isn't so bizarre. For instance, one can talk about high
school reunions and that, of the eight of your friends, four
of them had passed and that you knew that before you
attended the reunion where you found out. You can customize
the backs to say "Married" and "Single." Or perhaps
"Resident" and "Moved" (indicating those old friends who
stayed local and the ones who did not). One doesn't even
have to use high school yearbook photos.

On the surface, and in terms of plot, it is similar to Out
of this World. The difference is that methodology is
totally different. Unlike Out of this World, though the
cards are not gimmicked in any way, you can't always have
the cards completely examined or handled at the end. This
is one of those routines where the handling slightly varies
depending on the participants choices, but the outcome of
having all the cards separated is the same.

The only other consideration to this effect is that it is a
close-up effect. I don't think it can be adapted to larger
venues. At least, I can't think of a way at this moment
(though by the time you read this I may get a flood of
e-mail with suggestions...).

As to the method, it relies on one sleight and it's a false
count. It's not an Elmsley Count, nor is it the
Flushtration Count, both of which Tony Chris says he has
used in the past for this effect. This one is easier than
the Elmsley Count and perhaps a tad more difficult than the
Flushtration Count. This is not an original count, and a
comparatively new one, but one that fits this routine quite
well.

The package includes the instructional DVD and the eight
high school yearbook photos in an envelope. If you dislike
card or packet tricks and/or bizarre presentations, this may
appeal to you since this is quite adaptable. And if you
don't mind card or packet tricks and/or bizarre
presentations, this is a wonderful, portable, close-up
effect that's certainly worth it.
