Nothing unites two minds like love...
The effect is beautifully simple and straightforward: a
spectator opens a book, chooses a page, thinks of a word -
and you read their mind. This effect is enhanced by the fact
that it looks just like a book of poetry - complete with
table of contents, index, a forward by the editor, and
editor's notes sprinkled throughout. It really stands up to
close scrutiny. And, there are no dice to roll or cards to
choose - at every stage the spectator has a real choice.
Incandescence is a highly intricate assemblage of gimmicks
(there can be up to 12 phases!) It's easy to skip from one
phase to another, using only the ones you like best. The
skill level ranges from simple to intermediate, depending on
the number of phases you choose to learn. And, the number
and variety of phases gives you enormous flexibility in
performing for repeat clients or at trade shows where there
might be people lingering to watch the effect over and over.

MY COMMENTS:
The more I look at this, the more that I really like this
book test. It has everything one would want, but most
importantly it's pretty versatile and fairly easy to learn.
There are many features within it, and some are ones that
I've not seen before. The more you use of these features,
the less restrictive the word choice gets.
Another great feature is that, for those really want to use
this, the book can be passed to different participants who
will receive different instructions. Each will look at a
different word and the mentalist can reveal each one. So
this can be used in a multi-phase routine. I will warn you,
though, that it is not as simple to do this.
As for whether the book is examinable, it can be examined
before the effect, as participants won't know what to look
for. They will see that there is a different poem on each
page. However, it should not be given out for examination
after the routine is ended.
The big purchasing consideration for this is the fact that
this is a book of love poems. This is in no way a
criticism, but I'm simply pointing out that there are those
who will think that using a book of love poetry is ideal for
doing something different in their act and then are those
who just won't be comfortable with the idea. One just
doesn't carry around a book of love poetry except if they
have a good reason, so one would need a good reason to
incorporate this.
The book itself is 5.5" x 8.5" and is 112 pages long. It is
slim, but packed with poetry. The instructions are the same
size and saddle-stitched, 24 pages. Also included is an
errata sheet and a special something that is an aid for
performing the effect, though it is entirely optional.
For those who like book tests, this is one you should
definitely add. I certainly recommend this. For those
looking for a unique book test, or want to add a little
passion into your act, this is certainly something I'd
recommend you check out.
