THE BLURB:
The magician shows an envelope which he explains has a prediction inside. The magician then has a spectator think of a number from 1-16 (free choice) The magician shows a sheet of paper with several different objects on it. The magician tears the paper up into 16 pieces and has the spectator count down to their freely chosen number. That piece is held on to and the rest of the pieces are set aside. The magician has the spectator open the prediction and shows that it matches exactly what the spectator freely arrived at. A truly amazing coincidence! Everything can be examined! It is certainly a version of the classic Koran Newspaper Tear. However, Krause is using sheets of themed pictures, which is an intriguing idea. The edition that I looked at has photos of well-known landmarks. On his website, he also has animals, art, cartoon characters, magicians, and movies. If none of these appeal to you, you can have one custom made to the theme of your choice, though there is an extra charge. What I found most useful was the 15 page instructions in PDF format which used very easy-to-follow instructions in learning how to do the tear along with the computations. The package comes with 18 pre-printed sheets to use along with a CD that contains the PDF instructions, plus PDF of three different sheets of pictures to use. Everything you need to get started right out of the box, so to speak, is included. There are two ways to approach the Newspaper Tear. One of my favorite solutions is Docc Hilford's, which is found on The Vault DVD. That allows any number to be named and no computations at all. However, the performer must do the counting. In the classic version, there is some computation and the participant can do the counting. Both approaches are fine and which one you do depends on preference. One other note is the use of sixteen pictures. This is not as organic as a newspaper or magazine page. Thus many may feel that this is mental magic. I certainly won't debate that because, like the different handlings mentioned above, it's a matter of preference. If you already know how to do the newspaper tear effect, you probably don't need this. But if you're looking for a way to learn it easily and/or an interesting approach to the newspaper tear, then this is certainly recommended.
