THE BLURB:
Shopaholic! - A "Q-Singles" Effect New from the Creator of "Q" The Quantum Connect and International Pocket Change comes a unique and powerful effect using common coupons and a grocery store receipt! Effect: 15 different discount snack item coupons are shown, mixed and turned face down. 4 are freely chosen by spectators (no forces). The coupons are kept face down and BEFORE anyone knows what they are you hand a grocery receipt to one of the spectators, the items listed on the receipt match the coupon items chosen! Absolutely mind blowing magic with common objects! Difficulty: Easy! No sleights necessary. Super easy system (included) does all the work! What's Included: Realistic coupons gimmicked in a diabolical and unnoticable way, Store receipt to match the free choices made, and the key to it all, an official "Q-singles TM" device which makes it all happen! What is a "Q-Singles Effect? "Q-The Quantum Connection" is a revolutionary system and utility device being used by top professionals worldwide. A full "Q" set allows you instant access to a full deck of cards (or an equal amount of billets etc) and fits it your two front pants pockets! "Q-Singles" is 1/4 of a full "Q" set and allows you the same instant access to one fourth the amount of billets or cards. The versatility with "Q" is endless! As a result specialized effects called "Q-Singles" are now being developed for use with "Q" and utilize items and props that are not playing cards! Modular and adaptable Q-Singles are designed to work with other Q singles so as you're collection grows you can combine them to create a full set of Q or custom sets as you desire! Also Included is a lifetime membership to the Q-Network, a living breathing website with dozens of routines and tutorial videos on how to use Q and Q-Singles in an endless amount of ways! MY COMMENTS: I have much to talk about regarding the "revolutionary" Q system, which is a whole separate consideration, but let me first discuss the effect. I actually like this plot quite a bit as it deals with grocery store coupons, something every audience can relate to. And the prediction is revealed on a store receipt. All of these items feel organic, moreso than the other effect released currently in the series, NEWSWORTHY. Four items are selected by passing out batches of coupons to four different invididuals. Obviously, you will need four different participants to perform this effect. The process of selection vary among the four participants and all are standard, but they are effective and work well here. One consideration is that the coupons and receipts, made of paper, will wear out being made of paper. The package includes one set. I would have liked to see some duplicates enclosed or even the PDF files so that the working professional can reproduce the coupons and receipts when necessary. Other than that, I must say that I am impressed with this effect and it certainly delivers what is advertised. Obviously, whether the price is worth it to you depends on whether you will use it or not. If you're buying this just for the secrets, I won't recommend it as there is nothing new in that regards. But if you're looking for a strong effect that can be performed "right out of the box," (parlour size groups I'd think are the ideal size for this), or if the Q system sounds intriguing (see below), then this might be worth looking into. The package comes in a DVD case. It includes the coupons and receipts, the instructional DVD, and one Q system gimmick. The instructional DVD is the same one you get for the SHOPAHOLIC, another effect in the Q series. So this DVD teaches the Q Network idea, plus two effects. Now, let's turn to discussing the Q system. The biggest aspect of the blurb that I find most annoying is that Cosmo Solano has chosen to keep secret what the Q system actually is. I totally disagree as I think knowing what it is would sell more product, because this gimmick has been around for decades, at least, and there just isn't a variety of designs available (at least, not at the time of this writing). What I'm talking about is an i**e*. (Experienced performers know what letters those asterisks represent.) It's flat and leatherette, approximately 4" x 5" with twelve slots - three columns of four - on one side. It's a different design than I've seen. And it features some velcro which allows you to stack them in a way that each individual gimmick is easily accessible. I cannot say how durable this is as I don't use it regularly. I also cannot make a judgment as to whether this is a great or a wasteful product. Like some other gimmicks, this style may suit you or it may not. You may find that this will work beautifully for some routines and not for others, etc.
